From the time I was little, I wanted to be a mother when I grew up. I am blessed that God allowed that dream to come true.
Part of the reason I treasured that role was because of the wonderful mother God gave me. Mom didn’t have an easy life growing up; there were lots of hard times and hard work, but there was love. And she found the Author of love when she discovered that Jesus loved her and would be her Savior.
Mom showed that love to her family and her church family as well as others. She made goodies and clothing to share. She taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School.
Mom took time to read us stories, make cookies and play games with us. She sang around the house as she did chores. She made sure we knew that she and dad and Jesus loved us.
My mother was a strong woman, enduring hardship, hard work, physical issues, modeling forgiveness, overcoming hurts. She was a great role model for me because through it all, she kept her faith in God. My mother was a strong woman because she had a strong God.
Throughout her life, she held me close. In love, guidance, and prayer, she showed me Christ in action. Because of her example, I hold her and Christ close. What I am today, I owe in great part to her.
Happy birthday and happy Mother’s Day, Mom. Thank you for holding me close in so many ways. I love you and miss you.
