January is Sanctity of Human Life month. We celebrate that all humans are created in the image of God and are precious to Him from their beginning in the womb to their natural death.
You can use this month to talk to your children and grandchildren about how they are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139), how God has known them from the beginning and has a plan for them.
Tell your children about their birth or adoption. Remind them how happy you are that they are part of your family. Tell them how they can be “born again” and adopted into God’s family.
Perhaps you will want to read through their baby book or look at photo albums containing their baby and toddler photos. They can create their own book about their birth.
You could tell them about your own birth and growing up years. Show them how they are connected not only to you, but to grandparents, great-grandparents, and further back.
Your children can help you make and decorate a birthday cake celebrating the birth of all in your family. If you know a family with a new baby, have your children make cards and/or cookies to give to that family. Or offer to do some chores that would help the family.
Celebrate each other. Let your children know they are special, created the way God in His wisdom planned. Encourage each other to “love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments. . . that you may live” (Deuteronomy 30:16).
