This time of year as gardens wind down and farmers harvest crops, we reap the fruits of what we sowed in the spring. Paul alluded to this idea when he mentioned in Galatians 6:7 that elsewhere in our lives we also reap what we sow.
Nathan Good in his article “Growing a Garden of Joy: Reflections on Reaping and Sowing,” comments:
“This does not mean we can control our circumstances. However, despite our circumstances, we can choose how we will respond.
If you sow grumbling, you will reap bitterness. If you sow gratitude, you will reap joy.
If you sow greed, you will reap hostility. If you sow generosity, you will reap joy.
If you sow grudges, you will reap contempt. If you sow forgiveness, you will reap joy.
If you sow comparison, you will reap resentment. If you sow contentment, you will reap joy.
To change what you are harvesting, change what you are planting. If you want your life to be a garden of joy, then plant the seeds of joy and watch what grows.”
